Associated Grocery Manufacturers' Representatives of Youngstown Scrapbook
MSS 0125 -- (1951-1989) -- (1 vol)
Scope & Content
The 19 5/8 x 25 inch scrapbook includes photographs, newspapers
clippings, programs, and directories documenting the Associated
Grocery Manufacturers' Representatives of Youngstown from the
time of the group's founding in 1951. The history of the
organization during these years is one that parallels the decline
of the neighborhood grocery stores and the rise of the
supermarkets. Many of the members of this organization were small
grocers and their suppliers. The organization dwindled with the
neighborhood grocers. Much of the material deals with the
organization's charitable work, especially with mentally and
physically handicapped children.
Provenance
The scrapbook was acquired from Phyllis Witherow as a
representative of the group in November 1995. Randall Gooden
received the scrapbook on behalf of Ohio Historical Society on
November 9, 1995 and processed it for archival use. The Ohio
Historical Society owns the property rights to the scrapbook. It
has received the copyrights to non-published items in the book
and dedicated them to the public, but the copyrights to published
material remains with the publisher. Copying of items may be done
for incidental and academic use. The collection is open under the
rules and regulations of Ohio Historical Society and the
Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor's Archives-Library. Researchers are requested to cite the collection name and both the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor
and Ohio Historical Society when referring to this material in
notes and bibliographies.
