Series Title: Director's administrative files, 1972-1986.
Description: The director's administrative files cover the terms of office of governors John Gilligan, James Rhodes, and Richard Celeste. The files document the department's creation in 1973, and its ongoing operations. The bulk of the correspondence and memos pertain to the department's maintenance of state property and equipment; supervision of the state's civil service system; and management of state programs for public works construction, records management, and printing. The files also contain memos, correspondence, and agenda concerning Governor Celeste's cabinet meetings (1985-1986); and include transition materials from the Rhodes Administration to the Celeste Administration (1982-1983). Additional material includes published and unpublished reports, press releases, news clippings, and copies of Governor Celeste's schedules (1985-1986) that were intended for the director's use.
