Bill and Roger Koch of JBK Partners
Delaware
Once the home of The Beehive, an early 20th century women’s clothing store, the tiny commercial
building at 5 E. William St. was combined with another building at 2 N. Sandusky St. years ago.
Later it served as a darkroom, its storefront replaced by plywood. Now Roger and Bill Koch of JBK
Partners have brought the little one-story building back to life, replacing the roof, restoring the
storefront and pressed metal ceiling, and repointing the masonry while taking pains to preserve
the ‘ghost’ of the ‘Beehive’ sign. After years in oblivion, 5 E. William St. is back in commercial
use, contributing street presence and economic vitality to downtown Delaware.
