CARLOS A. NORTON TO WORTHINGTON

Chillicothe July 7th 1813.

Dear Sir,

I have recd. your favor, We have been in a considerable bustle here, for a few days, in consequence of hearing that Fort Meigs & Lower Sanduslcy were besieged. Our fears, however, yesterday subsided. Gen, Harrison arrived at Fort Meigs on the 28th Ult. Johnson's reg. then advanced as far as the river Raisin, & found no enemy. His reg. is now at Lower Sandusky, Gen. Harrison has gone, with Balls squadron to Cleveland.

You know I presume, that Gen. McArthur has been ordered into service.

I do not know whether Gen. Cass has rec. any orders on the subject. I presume not, however, as, in a letter to me of the date of July 3d, he makes no mention of the subject of joining the army. --

The 28th reg., Col. Owings, is expected here, this weel- .

I believe the platoon officers of the 26th reg. have recd. no notice of the confirmation of their appointments.

Mjr Denny has been elected Brigadier Genl. of militia --

I an sir, respectfully,

C. A. Norton

I understand, that Capts. Puthoff & Kessling of the 26th reg; have marched, with more than 2 companies, from Franklinton for Sandusky.
