JOHN McCOY TO WORTHINGTON Chillicothe July 3rd 1813 Genl Thomas Worthington Dear Sir The enclosed hand bill will inform you of the situation our army and frontier of this state is again placed in -- it apears we are to be eternally harassed in this frontier while Congress apear to tye up the hand of Genl Harrison when he otherwise could drive off the enemy at least from enlisting our neighbourhood the harvest is a time that every La ns attention is needed at home, but it is now a duty forced upon all to turn out to the field of Battle instead of the grain field and there bear the fatigues of hear[?] ex- cessive and deprivation of every other comfort and enjoyment a man feels at home Gov Meiggs is here at present-- Just cone in from Cleveland, the chilli- cothe guards Capt Hasper & Capt Vance's troop is there, I will not give you the siuation of that important point it is stated by the Gov as his opinion, the three places viz F iieiggs L Sandusky & Cleveland was attacked oil the same day if Genl Harrison made good his way into F Meiggs very little fear is aprehended of that place, but nothing is said very flattring of the other two and a desperate push is expected as far into the interior as Norton where there is a great store of provisions -- Your family are in good health and nothing of a local nature to communi- cate to you with attention I have made sale of all the cotton by the Bale at from 30 to 40 days credit a part at $19.00 -- the proceeds as soon as received will be put in Bank at your credit according to your instruction - your favor was duly recd. respecting the price of the land at the request of Mr Banner, I have not seen him since but expect he will call every day and know if the price meets his aprobation I will be able to close a sale. however as soon as done I will write to you the Bank declared a dividend of 7 per cent on the capital stock for the last six months -- no doubt but Mr. R. D. Shepherd of Orleans will be up at your house shortly, will you be so good as give me an introduction to him perhaps I can assist him to make sale of his Cargo which you were pleased to inform me he would perhaps consign partially to you my Cargo of Brown Sugar -- coffee and sundries which you perhaps noticed as ordered at the time you shewed me Shepherds Letter is shipped for Portsmuth on the 29th of May I have on hand some B Sugar & will offer Mrs W 100 lb more if wanted Respectfully yr ob st John McCoy 210 |
