JOHN KERR TO WORTHINGTON

Franklinton the 23d Nov. 1812

Dear sir.

It is on my recollection that you have mentioned to me that Mr. Nourse put into your hands for me Ten dollars if so I will be indebted to Mr. Nourse the amt. of the item chargd. to him by payment of tax here at his order say about 31 Dollars if Mr. Nourse has any money to expend here in the payment of taxes I will be glad to pay the amt for him, if not, you will greatly oblige me by paying him this sum and I will refund it to your order here at any time --

Please let me hear from you on the subject of the location of the Warrant of 150 acres which I purchased on your return from Congress last sumer and if the 50 acres can be located as we had anticipated on the fractional lots on the Scioto River if those locations are made and the patents procured for me be so good as to draw on me for the money.

Head quarters are still here, an expedition leaves this place on the morrow (probably for the Delaware towns) to consist of about 600 men there is said to be about 400 Indian warriors there -

To take the cursed petty fort of Malden an escort about as much as all Canada is wort however it is not my place to complain of this, our state will be benefitted by the expense; and in proportion to its amount

I am much pleased to remark, that the people are now, not near so ready to burn your effigy and that of Mr. Pope, as they were last summer, consider- ations is always received by the multitude when it is of no great service to them. War is a very pretty thing in theory, how it may terminate in practice is altogether a different consideration - if the people of the United States are to be heavily taxed for the support of the war, I wish it were a poll tax, the fever of war would be greatly reduced by such an application of the power of congress.

I am glad I could not accopt the appointment you were so good as to solicit for me last year, if I had, probably I would have been out with Hull and consequently one of Genl Brocks men --

I am sir Respectfully yr &c

John Kerr

Genl. Thos. Worthington
