I have written to the President from Dayton making a tender of the service of the Regiment to him, but I fear my letter has miscarried. I am sorry to trouble you with so lengthy a letter, but the subject is in- teresting to many who with myself wish your advise relative to the mater it contains Do my Dear sir, Answer me without loss of time, this week I return to Headquarters and wait for orders to march with my Regt. to Detroit or wherever my country may think proper to direct me. I have recd. no patents as yet. I think government ought to issue them and thereby do a little for me, when I am exerting myself so much for my country, adieu for the present.
