JAMES MANARY TO WORTHINGTON North Paint March 10th. 1812 Dear Sir I would just inform you that there is A dispute about that part of the law for raiseing rangers that aludes to the men arming themselves and finding there own horses there is a great say that the[y] will have to find them selves and horses if it is so it will be very hard for to raise a company I wish that you would let me know the true meaning of that part of the law. I understand that there is to be appointed oie Leiut Col and one Major in the new army that is to be raised -- there is a great many recommendations gone on from this state it apears that Mr Tod Puthuft Lucas and myself were all re- commended for those offices. If those rangers are not wanted I hope that you will remember me in one of those places if the appointments goes on. I believe that the law for raising a new amy says that no field officer shall receive any pay untill called in to actual service as the ranks may be filled before those appointments may be maid Genl Warthun and some more of our friends still think that I will get one of those places in the new army. please to beare with me when I am troubleing you, I do not fault you for what you have done. I have not received any orders as yet but am waiting to receive them. there has been a great many young men at me to join the Company and is very anxious to know soon as tho time of year is coming on to prepare for farming or other business A great many wish that my Son James will be appointed Ensign in said company. I wish that you would write me as soon as convenient Sir I am your most humble servant James Manary Genl Worthington 72 |
