JAMES MINARY TO WORTHINGTON North Paint Feb 7th 1812 Dear Sir. I received your letter on the first day of this Inst. I find that I am appointed a Capt of the rangers. I suppose that the letter of recommendation had not reached that place when the appointment was made in which Genl Lucas was recommended for the same rank in the letter with me the recommendation was signed by part of the members of the legislature but if there is men that is superior to me that is recommended for the same that I applied for I must not regrett it, as I am willing to do all that is in my power to defend and support my country when required. I thank you sincerely for the favor that is confered on me and I hope that we can raise a company that will do there duty and do honour to themselves and country Sir please to favour me with a letter and lett me know who is appointed in the regular army in our state and whether any of our gallant Chillicothe gentlemen as I understand that there is several of them that has applied. I am much surprised that such men shoud be recommended whose Characters are so well known should be set over men to Command them but I ought not to Judge. Sir I am yours &c James Minary |
