JOHN BEVER TO WORTHINGTON George Town Penna. Jany 1812 Honbl. Thomas Worthington Sir Forgive me when I ask leave to inquire whither any place is designated by the President of the U.S. for holding the Land Offices of Canton district agreeable to an act of Congress. Should he have acted, it has not yet been published in any of the news papers I have read. It is supposed by Gentn. of information in the state (Ohio) he declined deciding to after the meeting of Congress, waiting Information of the numbers from the States or a Nomination of the place by the Senate, these circumstances has induced me with difference to recommend to your Notice the Town of Wooster as a suitable place within the district for them offices; it is the seat of Justice for Wayne County a healthy and thriving town and in all probability the County will be organized this session; Unanimous Petitions have been sent to the Legislature for that purpose the country has increased in population beyond all reasonable calculations the Town is situated on the Killbuck a navigable stream in Section Nine of Township fifteen of Range Thirteen; If you will give your self the trouble to examine the map of the state you will observe it is situated not far east from the center of the district and in some measure the middle county owing to part of the district or pur- chase being attach'd to or embraced in Stark County these observations are with diffidence submitted to your consideration I have the Honour to be your Obt. & Huml Sevt John Bever 28 |
