D. MCARTHUR TO WORTHINGTON
Zanesville Decr. 27th 1811
At the request of our mutual friend Genl James Minary, I have ask the favour of you to mention his name to the Secretary at War, as a proper person to command either a Regiment or Battalion in the additional army which is about to be raised.
I recd. a letter from him on yesterday in which he mentions that he would will- ingly accept a commission as Colonel or Major in the additional corps.
I have not had the pleasure of receiving a single line from you since my arrival at this place, altho I have written to you several times. I have however, through my friends here an oppertunity to seeing the city papers, and suppose from every circum- stance that war will be the final issue.
You know that I am meteriolly interested in having commissioners appointed on the part of the United States to act jointly with such as may be appointed on the part of the state of virginia to ascertain run and mark a true line from the source of the little miami to the source of the Sciota, and must call on you as my agent to indea- vor to have this desirable object accomplished, do let me have your candid opinion on the subject, I am also interested in knowing what is to be done in consequence of the secretary at war's refusing to grant certificates in favour of any late warrants which are in his office, consequently no patents issue on late warrant. If patents are not to issue on them it would be well for those conscerned to be apprised of it as soon as possible. Will you be pleased to enquire into this circumstance and inform me the probable result.
Please give my compliments to Mrs. Worthington and family and accept for your- self the best wishes of your ob. HI. servt.
NB. I understand there are companies of Rangers about to be established along our Northwestern frontiers, I think our old friend would grasp a command of this kind as well as any other
Would it not be well for congress at this session, to pass an uniform militia law which would operate equally throughout the union?
Genl Thos. Worthington
