OSL HARRISON TO MEIGS Head Quarters Seneca Towns Dear Sir Colos. Brush & Couch arrived this Evening and delivered me your Excellencys letter of this morning -- They have explained to me the situation of the militia which you have relaived in the field, and the obligation to Service under which they are held - I have only to regret that the latter is not of that kind which promises to be useful to our ensuing operations My disappointments in filling the 12 months Regiments are so great that it is now certain that I cannot count upon more than 2000 or 2500 effectives. The fear of this result was the only cause of my re- questing your Excellency to keep 2000 men in the field of the Militia whid were lately called out. I can only say that I rely upon that number to accompany me to Canada -- I am your friend Willm Henry Harrison His Excellency |
