OSL HARRISON TO MEIGS Head Quarters Lower Sandusky Dear Sir Your favour by Major Hukill and Mr Fiske were received. Before I left this place for Cleveland I directed the iiilitia under Capt Vance to be discharged as soon as the regular Troops under Major Croghan arrived -- That took place a da;- or two ago only and they are now making out their muster & pay Rools -- tonorrow they will be paid They have behaved as badly as those at Cleaveland have done well. -- I very much approve the dismission of Genl Wingate altho I think as you do that he is a good officer. Will you be pleased to recall him immediately -- I cannot accept a Company of Spies as such but I shall want such a Corps of the kind and will write to the Secretary of War upon the Subject. I arrived here fron Cleaveland last ni ht. The Vessles of the Enemy were seen on Tuesday last off the Sandusky Bay -- And strange to tell no scouts have been sent in that di.rection since, untill this morning. I am yr. friend Willm Henry Harrison His Excellency |
