OSL STODDARD TO MEIGS Pittsburgh 22d, Septr. 1812 Sir, I was ordered here by the Secy of war to assist in furnishing the north western army I ha ve already supplied 2000 men bound to Niagara, as also several Volunteer companies -- some of these are now on the route thro the state of Ohio. Two days ago I forwarded the following supplies to Genl. Wadsworth near Cleveland, viz, carriage and Harness for a six pounder -- 1300 muskets and bayonets -- 1200 Cartridge Boxes and Belts -- 500 Blankets -- 200 Tents and Tent poles -- 200 axes -- 1300 Canteens -- and 30,000 musket ball Cartridges, with three buck shot in each ..- It is my business to furnish as far as ly means will authorize me -- I find it difficult, in: any instances, to obtain the requisite materials Stors of various kinds are on the way from the sea board. I am preparing some artillery, which I am in hopes to have ready in 12 or 14 days, designed, as I believe for Genl, Harrison. I presume I must send it by way of Cincinnati - I vwould thank you for your ideas on this point -- as well as on such others as may occur -- they will enable me to act with more decision -- at least they vrill serve to explain to me -the specific wants of the north western army. In great haste, I am, Sir, your humbl sert. Amos Stoddard Majr & Depy Q. Master His Excy Govr. Meigs. |
