OSL WINCHESTER TO MEIGS Cincinnati 9th Septr. 1812 Sir I am this far on my way to assume the command of the army, on you North Western frontier. I shall leave this place tomorrow for Piqua, where I shall be extremely glad to See you, in order to consult with you relative to the best possible means of protecting the exposed frontier of the State of Ohio, without losing sight at the same time of upper Canada. I am authorised by the Secretary at WVar, to call on your Excellency for reinforcements of Militia, on this subject also a personal inteiview is desirable. Should it however be inconvenient to you Sir, to meet me at Piqua, or at some other place on my rout, you will be good enough to communicate to me in writing your ideas on the Subject of tile protection of your frontier inhabitants, as wellaasthhe extent of Militia you can furnish upon my requisition I have the honor to be, with high consideration, Your Obt Servant J 'Jinchester B.
