OSL MUNGER TO MEIGS
Dayton February 26th 1813
Agreable to your Directions I have Convened the Feild Officers of this Brigade to Consult the best mode of defence, it was Unanimously agreed that it is Necessary to have five Companies Stationed on the frontiers of this Brigade as you will See by the inclosed, -- I would inform your Excellency that we are Destitute of all kinds of Camp Utensils and Amunition, I made Application to U States Quartermaster in this Place for the Necessary articles of Equipage for the men that are on the frontier but could not Obtain any, I wish you would Direct Some way for us to get those articles for we have no funds to procure any with. -- it is thought Necessary to build A Block house between fort Nesbit & Greenville and Lorimies on the Crossing of Stillwater, and there is not An ax or Mattock to be had to Perform the work with -- I would Suggest to your Excellency the Propriety of Calling out the Companies of Cavelry belonging to this Brigade who have done no duty and are Not Equipt to be Drafted, Enlist into the troop in order to Evade A Draft whether it would not be Proper to Order them out to Serve as Mounted Rangers -- the People Complain very loudly of those Companies being Exempt from duty --
I wish Sir you would take those things into Consideration and grant Such order thereon as you may think necessary. --
I am Sir with Respect your Excellenceys most Obedt & Humbl. Servt.
