OSL MUNGER TO MEIGS Dayton February 2nd 1813 Dear Sir I would beg leave to State to your Excellency the Critical Sittuation of this Past of the State, Since the late unfortunate Defeat of Genl. Winchester Army, the People in General are greatly alarmed for the safety of our frontiers, as the time of service for those men who are stationed on the frontiers will Expire in about 16 days and if there is not some arangement made to Supply their Places against that time, the Posts will be left unguarded, of Consequence the frontier Settlements will undoubtedly break up which will Lay our Country open to the incursions of the Savages, besides there is A large number of Indians dyeing on the frontiers (as I Stated to you in my last) who are growing more & more insolent and if they are Suffered to remain there I am afraid it will be attended with very Serious Consequences, it is very Certain that Tecumseh is Collecting A Considerable force on the Massassinway and will undoubtedly make an Attack on some Place whenever he has A favorable opportunity. -- I am Sir your Excellencys most Obedt. and very Humbl. Servt. Edmund Munger Brid. Genl. |
