Hopkins to Wabaughkonatane - request- ing their Cheifs -- to come in and see me -- on yesterday Capt Lewis -- & Piatawanankey Chief from Stony creek A Block Hoff - Woolf & Big Snake from Wabaughkonatane - Capt Logan & T Duchequet Interpreters -- arrived - and I Informed them of my Intentions. of ranging al long the Greenville Line agreeably to my orders -- I also requested that they Should let two of their young men Come and live with us and guide the Squads on the line - also assured them of my Protection in Case of Their [rest of the line illeg. ] ment - After a consultation of the Cheefs -- The next morning -- Black Hoof -- deliver'd the following -- as Near as Can be recollected Brother Capt We have come to see you agreeably to your request - We have been in Council for two days -- part Mr. Johnston has sent for us. We are going to see him & hear what he has to say. We are all for Peace & we are determined not to listen to anything That the British say to us (or the prophet) We have done that once - two often & have lost a great many of our good men Which might have Lived yet -- I speake for all pre- sent We are all of One mind. We will Keep in remembrence What our Father the President of the US States told us, to follow farming & he has sent us utentials for that purpose. - We loved The White people -- & we Know it is of no use to fight -- the Americans - We intend to do What he told us -- We cannot be accountable for the Back Nations - Tho. We promise you Brother Capt that if any "attempts are made on the frontiers -- or you & we Know of it, We will give you Information Imediatly -- Your request for two of our Young men we will Send you as soon as we reutrn Home -- Sober young men -- Who will be no trouble to you - We Wish you to write to our Father the Governor. for you to Send some of Your Men to our TTown (Wabagh-ko-nataw)-- While you Stay here -- so that if any Deception are going on that they might give Information -- for Some people tells lies on us -- What we have spoken We Hope Brother Captain you will write tothe Governour --so that he May be assured of our friendship & Support-- This above the Substance of What they Chiefs have spoken to Me -- Wm. Perry Capt I understan his Excellency is now in Dayton -- I hope it will be in his power to Come as far (at least) as this place --We want an Inter- preter of respect -- The killing of the 2 Miami Indians at Greenville - it is for you to Judge -- but I think it s Cowardly thing -- An opper- tunity offering & I am so Hurried About our Block House I cannot Write -- every thing -- I hope we will Able to furnish one Compleat by Saturday Night -- Timber is scarce & No Teams -- only 2 Yoke of Poor oxen that Cannot do 1/4 of a Days work I hope you will publish the Statement of the Shawanoes Wm.
