OSL VAN HORN TO MEIGS Zanesville 23d Jany 1813 Sir, Your Excellencys letter by Mr. Baine is duly recd. requiring my attendance atChilicothe or to send on the Adjutant Generals Papers. Mr. Marple being elected Char. to our Bench which as yet engrosses his whole time, of course confines me to the Land Office, having no one yet who can do the business, without me -- there is therefore no alternative, bad as I want to go, I must relinquish the Idea. I have delivered the papers to Mr. Bland[?], excepting what few returns have come in for this winter the greater part wanting -- If they come soon I shall Make an Abstract & send on, if not I shall send on what I have -- If any other papers belonging to the Adjt. Genl.s Office, shall be found omitted to be sent, I shall send them on, by the first Oppy. Mr. Buckingham has drawn the bills anew and left the heading & closing open, to be shaped as you direct. If your Objections should be to the rent for the House, as it is said, please make it what you think right or omit it altogether -- It is the only article in which I am interested and can wane[?]. It was a Voluntary thing, sugested by my neighbours, & Valued as other things -- and generally said to be far below the damages sustained -- all the other accounts, except the Commissy. are to be paid for in money, indeed mostly paid, those who have not recd. are very unfortunate I am yours Excellency & Obedt. Huml. Servant V Horne |
