OSL TUPPER TO MEIGS

Camp at Solomons Town Oct. 18th [1812]

Sunday evening

Sir,

Capt Wood has this moment put into my hands the enclosed, with a request that it be immediately forwarded to your Excy or Gen Harrison -- I have deemed it proper to forward it by express --

I this morning received from Gen Harrison an enclosed order for Manary to March his company to the Loramis -- Manary (as I understand) half his company are absent -- I forwarded the Order to his Lieutenant -

I fear Gen Harrison is a stranger to the dicipline and want of action in that company. It is well known that their scounting has been but a Mockery during this season, After Gen. Harrison gave me command of that Company it was not to be relied on -- Capt Manary was ordered to march 300 yards in front, in Platoons by the flank of twelve Men -- he attended to the order the first day The second he marched off without orders & reached Tawa Towns near two hours before the column. He was ordered to form with his company the first line of our encampment -- That evening he refused to encamp in the Line -- I ordered his to move his encampment into Line, he a nswered he was only bound to obey the Orders of the President & left that line open for the night

Col Sutton had not attended to your order for having sheds & cribs built a t McArthurs B house. I have ordered back Capt Barkers for trial, He is charged with selling salt to the Soldiers of Capt Kilgores company at 25 Cents pr quart -- I have given Capt. Kilgore the command -- he com- ences building Cribs & sheds tomorrow. He has compleated one store house I shall order off in the Morning One Battalion to open the road to Mc- Arthur -- Also all our Baggage Waggons loaded with Forage for that place --

I cannot find any arrangements are making by White or his agents to forward the two hundred thousand Rations Ordered by Gen Harrison. I am Much inclined to believe no great part of that Deposite will be made

Our camp is perfectly quiet, & subordinate - The Troops are anxious to proceed on to the Rapids --

I am very respectfully sir, your Most Obt Servt.

Edw. W Tupper
