0SL PETITION TO MEIGS To his Excellency Return Jonathan Megs Governer and Commander in chief of the state of Ohio, Your Petitioners the Inhabitants of Richland County humbly sheweth that we conceive ourselves to be in perrelous situation at present having but few men and those depleted of Arms and amunition having in our neigh- bourhood a conciderable number of Indians which we feel susspicious of their Integrity and every man in our County being under Orders at present from Majer Cratzer to Randesvous for the Purpose of marching to Sandukey which Orders we View as unreasonable as we must leave our helpless familys to the Mercy of heathen without any manner of support and we wish to ac- quaint your Excellency that is we are obliged to execute such Orders we must inevituely evacuate this County. We Your Petitioners humbly Request that Your Excellency would grant us Relief in the premise with sixty Pounds of powder and a proportionate quantity of Lead and thirty stand of Arms and we further Request Your Excellency we should not be taken out of our own County to serve on any tower to duty so long as times wares so gloomy an aspect as they do at present and we Your petitioners as in duty bound shall every pray Green Township August 24th: 1812 [Here follow the names of the petitioners. ] |
