OSL ANDREW DILL TO MEIGS Fort McArthur August 20th 1812 Sir From the conduct of Wm. Hull our late commander, I am at a loss what to do, & in the present exigence I address your Excellency for the necess- ary instructions for my future conduct. If it should appear to your Excellency that I am to maintain this garrison, I will do it to the last extremity, in that case I shall want a large Store of bacon and Flour with other necessaries more Especially Powder & balls, but should it be your opinion that this place is to be left destitute of men, I shall act in conformity with your orders should the last be your opinion, it will be necessary to send some wagons to remove the Military stores which is here I have the honor to be, with the highest consideration your Excellencys most obdt. & very Hbl.
