Wells was among the dead -- my dear friend do all you can to give us Some Assistance - from the best information I can get they are determined on this place, the council is broken up I expect, - every thing appears to be goin against us. -for God Sake Call on Gov Meigs for to Assist us in Sending More Men - Capt Heald got but half a Mile from the Garrison When the Indians attackd. him -- you know our Situation here & do all you can, -- Shall Start all our families from this tomorrow -- try to get a party to escort them in do all you can for them -- I shall forward an open letter which you will see we are very Scant of provisions here -- for God Sake try in Some Way to get Some forwarded to us -- I expect if there is not Something done we must fall a Prey -- they say there were a bout 600 Indians all together -- the express was brought by Ashes brother in law who went with Winimack he was in sight in time of the Action & went in among the dead after the action -- the Miamies all run off When the Indians Attackd. - the first man he saw was Capt Wells I a m so engaged in tearing down the buildings by my open Circular -- Mr Steakny lays at the point of death - I am very respectfully your &c Rhea Capt John Johnston Esqr. |
