Sir
Herewith you will receive the Commission for Stephen Reeder who is I believe of your Vil- lage -- The other Commissions have been made out and sent to Captain Greer.

The Inhabitants of this Place are under considerable Apprehensions of an Attack from some Party of Indians which may be detach- ed for the purpose of destroying the Settlements while the Army is in Advance - and as the Thing is very practicable though I do not think it pro- bable it will be well to take some measures to guard against it -- you will therefore please to order a Guard of militia to mount at some convenient Place in this Village every night at Sun Setting -- from which Patrols are to be kept out constantly during the Night until Sun rising when the Guard will return to their Habitations.

I do not know whether the people of Columbia are equally apprehensive with those here, but they are certainly as much exposed -- you will therefore direct the same measures to be taken there, and the number to be employed at each Place you will pro- portion to the effective Strength at each, so as not to make the Service too burthensome -

It can not long be necessary for the Army
