Thank you for your interest in supporting the Ohio Historical Society!

Support The Ohio Historical Society's Annual Giving Campaign.
Each year, we count on the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations, and other organizations to support the Society's educational programs, sites, and general operations. Your annual gift gives the Society the flexibility it needs to direct resources to immediate priorities. Gifts of $100 or more are recognized in the Society's Annual Report and on the Foundation's web pages. Gifts of $250 or more are recognized on the Donor Wall at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus. Click here to make your secure online gift that works to support Ohio's rich heritage.

Make a gift in honor or in memory of your favorite history buff, amateur archaeologist, or nature lover.
Honorial and memorial gifts provide a meaningful way of paying tribute to those whose passion and lifework are dedicated to history, archaeology, or natural history. All honorial and memorial gifts are acknowledged in Echoes, the Ohio Historical Society's member newsletter. Gifts of $100 or more are recognized in the Society's Annual Report and on the Foundation's web pages. Gifts of $250 or more are recognized on the Donor Wall at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus. Click here to make a secure online tribute gift to the Ohio Historical Society.

Give a gift of stock.
A gift of long-term, appreciated securities (stock, bonds, or mutual fund shares) allows you to claim the full fair market value of the stock as a tax deduction. Often, you can also avoid paying capital gains tax. You may also choose to sell stock that has lost value and donate the proceeds from the sale. You can then deduct the capital loss, as well as the amount of the sale of the stock. To make a gift of stock, please contact Patricia Miranda, Manager of Annual Giving, at (614) 297-2336 or send an email to pmiranda@ohiohistory.org.

Leave a legacy.
Drawing up your estate plans is an intensely personal decision -- with family, legal, and tax implications that should be thought through carefully. Naming a charity in your will provides you with a way to make a lasting contribution to a cause you care about. If you're considering including The Ohio Historical Society in your estate plans, we would be happy to discuss various options with you. Please contact Scott Mueller, Director of Institutional Advancement, at (614) 297-2320 or (800) 647-6921 for a confidential, no-obligation consultation.

Special Projects
The Society is also working to raise private support for several important initiatives:

Fort Meigs Museum and Education Center (Perrysburg)
Scheduled to open in Spring 2003 with new exhibits, classroom and meeting facilities, and a gift shop, the Fort Meigs Museum and Education Center will be an exciting community resource to the residents of Perrysburg, Toledo, and northwest Ohio. New exhibits and programming will offer an in-depth exploration of the role Ohioans played during the War of 1812 and other military conflicts in our nation's history. With the help of a local fundraising committee, the Society is raising $1.5 million in private funds for enhancements and an endowment at this important site.  Click here to support the Fort Meigs Museum and Education Center.

Save the Flags Campaign
A colorful part of Ohio's military history is in danger of crumbling away. The Ohio Historical Society needs your help in conserving its collection of approximately 500 Ohio battle flags, including a large number of Civil War regimental and national colors. The Society's Save the Flags Campaign will use new conservation techniques to save the flags from further deterioration, make the flags available again for research and examination, and provide for possible exhibit, under suitable conditions. Private funding will ensure the Society's ability to save individual flags and further the conservation project in general. Click here to make a secure online donation to the General Battle Flag Conservation Fund or to adopt an individual flag.

Ohio History Day
A statewide program administered by The Ohio Historical Society, Ohio History Day encourages students in grades 6-12 to research and present history projects of their own choosing. Emphasizing imagination, diligent inquiry, and creative presentation, Ohio History Day demonstrates that students learn history when they do history. In support of Ohio History Day, Honda of America Mfg, Inc. (Marysville) has given $60,000, and the John Hauck Foundation (Cincinnati) has awarded a $45,000 grant. To learn how you can sponsor Ohio History Day activities, please contact Paulene Wilson, Assistant Director of Institutional Advancement, at (614) 297-2322 or send an email to pwilson@ohiohistory.org.
